Boutique Travel: Bordeaux France

I truly believe that the best journeys are those that go above and beyond the ordinary, bringing you face-to-face with exclusive experiences.

Last March, my husband and I embarked on a journey to France. As self-proclaimed "wine" enthusiasts, with my husband particularly fascinated by the various wine regions, Bordeaux had long been at the top of our list.

Having heard mixed reviews about others' experiences in Bordeaux, I decided to personally craft an itinerary that would capture everything we envisioned for our visit. Leaving nothing to chance, I meticulously planned what we now fondly refer to as our "trip of a lifetime," ensuring it included all that we love.

Join me as I share my personal adventure through the picturesque landscapes and charming villages of Bordeaux.

Our journey to Bordeaux begins in the heart of Paris. From the Montparnasse train station, we will embark on a First Class train to Bordeaux, France. This serene 2-hour and 10-minute ride will bring us directly to the city center, arriving at St. Jean station.

Our chosen accommodation in Bordeaux is the Hotel Mondrian, selected for its elegant ambiance. From the moment you enter, you are greeted with exceptional service and meticulous attention to detail. The modern yet sophisticated decor exudes luxury, making you feel instantly at home. Every aspect of the room, from the bedding to the variety of pillows and delightful edible treats, is designed to enhance your comfort.

The Mondrian also features a SPA, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. The hotel boasts a vibrant and inviting Restaurant Bar, as well as an extraordinary restaurant by Chef Morimoto. Situated on a quiet street, it is within walking distance of all the main attractions in Bordeaux.
We spent two delightful days exploring Bordeaux, wandering its charming cobbled streets and discovering its diverse neighborhoods.
1. Our visit to the Cité du Vin (Wine Museum) was a highlight. This is a must-see for anyone visiting Bordeaux. Whether you are passionate about wine, fascinated by history, or curious about how the earth, climate, and soil shape the lives of many through the grape, this museum offers an enriching experience.
2. We attended a wine-tasting class, an essential experience in one of the world's premier wine regions.
3. Dinner at a local brasserie, recommended by our hotel concierge, allowed us to savor authentic local cuisine in a setting frequented by residents.
4. We also indulged in a meal at Chef Morimoto's Japanese fusion restaurant, an opportunity we couldn't pass up.

Just a short distance from Bordeaux, the cities of Médoc and Margeaux offer an ideal setting for a wine discovery adventure. Hiring a private driver allowed us to explore carefully selected vineyards that matched our wine preferences, and we enjoyed a delightful lunch at a local brasserie. Médoc was truly a highlight of our trip.

At the heart of Saint-Émilion, you will find Hôtel de Pavie. This was my hotel of choice for its incredible location, impeccable service,  charm, elegance, comfort, and breathtaking views. Surrounded by the village of Saint-Émilion, the vistas from your window will elevate your experience to new heights. And we cannot forget to mention the ** Michelin-starred restaurant, La Table de Pavie by Yannick Alléno, which truly reflects the art of French cuisine.
